The TSSR Welcomes You!!!!

The TSSR is very sorry to hear of the closure of the Shiloh Shepherd Breed Registry.   We thank Jan Burke (SSBA liaison) for contacting us.     The Board considers unity in our breed a desirable goal, and appreciates the opportunity to take positive steps toward achieving that goal.

We welcome the registration of any former SSBA dogs whose owners may wish to bring them to the TSSR.   Recognizing the differences in the regulations of the two organizations, the Board discussed how the differences may be addressed in a way that is fair to both new and current registers, and upholds the standards upon which our registry was founded.  To that end, we sought to facilitate the transition of dogs, puppies, and litters that were conceived or registered according to SSBA rules to full membership/registration in TSSR, and ask that all breeding dogs going forward meet TSSR standards for health testing and be bred according to TSSR regulations. We are prepared for the regulations and conditions that follow to take effect as of June 1, 2009.

We believe that the following information should help answer your questions.  If we failed to cover a question that you may have, please contact Jan Burke or Christi Yonavick so that your question can be answered correctly and promptly.

  • ·     Any litter either conceived or born prior to June 1, 2009 under the rules and regulations of SSBA may apply for and be granted registration with TSSR.  If the breeder can provide proof (cancelled check) that he/she paid SSBA to register the litter and has not yet received the paperwork, the registration fee will be waived.  A litter bred from SSBA registered dogs under SSBA rules may be registered with TSSR at the regular fee if the application has not already been made to SSBA. Puppies with blue papers from litters bred under SSBA regulations may apply for and be granted temporary registration papers.  Regular TSSR fees would apply ($20).

o   The above litters/puppies will move forward under the TSSR rules for health testing.

  • ·     A period of 90 days was established during which owners of breeding dogs with permanent registration papers from SSBA (or other registries) may register with TSSR for a reduced fee of $5 (the TSSR fee for replacement papers).  Understanding that some dogs will need to take steps to meet TSSR health testing requirements, the Board determined that they may have until December 31, 2009 to submit the health certifications for such registration.  All applicable paperwork must be submitted within the time specified for the reduced fee to apply ($5.00).  After December 31, 2009, the upgrade fee will revert to the regular TSSR fee for registering a breeding dog. ($25.00)

o   To further explain the above---any dog that in the past bred on preliminary hip x-rays and needs to finalize hips and/or needs to complete OFA heart certification to comply with the TSSR rules is given to December 31, 2009 to update their paperwork for the reduced fee.   After December 31, 2009, upgrade fee will revert to the regular TSSR fee.

  • ·    Owners of pet dogs or non-breeding veterans with permanent registration papers from SSBA or other registration organizations will be registered in TSSR at the owner’s request at no charge. The replacement fee of $5 to cover processing and postage will be charged if the owner wants to receive the official registration paperwork from the TSSR---photo included on paperwork.

  • ·     All titles earned to date will be recognized by the TSSR.  Points on any dog (from any registry) coming in to the TSSR registry earned toward a breed championship will be honored.  Only SSBA dogs coming to the TSSR will retain their GV, NS, and POTY points for 2009 (due to closure of that registry mid-year).  Copies of original win sheets (for 2009) must be provided to TSSR at the time of registration, and within the 90 day registration period.

  • ·     Kennel registration fees will be waived for all established kennels.

  • ·     The Board wishes to clarify its position on hip certification for a breeding dog.  TSSR will recognize the regulations of professional organizations (OFA and OVC) in determining the age at which hip certification becomes final. TSSR will accept FINAL hip results from OFA and OVC at the date at which those organizations allow final x rays to be taken and final hip certifications to be issued.  Penn Hip scores will be accepted when performed at or after 18 mos. as final.  The breeding age continues to be 2 years of age or older.

  • ·    Jan Burke has been asked by the Board to act as a liaison for SSBA breeders/owners to facilitate communication and transition of those dogs that come into the TSSR from the SSBA.  This position is expected to last through the end of 2009.  Please feel free to contact Jan Burke (info@ssbashilohs.com) telephone 902-672-3186---Canada or Christi  Yonavick--Registrar (tssrinfo@gmail.com) telephone 610-378-1899 USA with any questions or concerns.

****Those breeders/owners that are not affected by the SSBA closure, but are interested in transferring their dogs into the TSSR are welcome to bring their dogs over for 90 days (June 1, 2009---August 31, 2009) under the above conditions.   Please contact Christi Yonavick with any questions that you may have.
